Hygiëne tijdens de menstruatie

Om het bloed tijdens de menstruatie te absorberen, kan een vrouw maandverband of tampons gebruiken. Ze kan het bloed ook opvangen met een menstruatiecup.

Maandverband

Een maandverband is een doekje dat vrouwen in hun onderbroek leggen tijdens de menstruatie. Aan de onderkant van het maandverband zit een plakstrook. Die houdt het verband op zijn plaats. U kunt maandverband in verschillende maten, vormen en diktes kopen.

Tampon

Een tampon is een staafje van watten met een touwtje aan. Het staafje brengt u in de vagina in. Het koordje blijft uit de vagina hangen. U kunt tampons in verschillende maten kopen.

Verwissel de tampon om de paar uur. Om een tampon te verwijderen, trek zachtjes aan het koordje. 

Het maagdenvlies kan niet scheuren door een tampon.

Menstruatiecup

U kunt ook een menstruatiecup gebruiken, in plaats van maandverband of tampons. Een menstruatiecup is een bekertje van soepel materiaal (siliconen). U brengt de cup in de vagina in. De cup vangt het bloed op. 

De cup bestaat in verschillende maten. De maat hangt af van de hoeveelheid bloed die u verliest en of u al eens bent bevallen of niet. 

De cup brengt u ongeveer in zoals een tampon:

U kunt de cup hergebruiken:

Geen anticonceptie

De tampon en de menstruatiecup zijn geen anticonceptiemiddelen. Als u geslachtgemeenschap heeft en niet zwanger wil worden, kies dan een anticonceptiemiddel dat bij u past.

Geen bescherming tegen soa’s of hiv

De tampon en de menstruatiecup beschermen u niet tegen soa’s en hiv. Alleen een condoom kan u beschermen.

U kunt maandverband, tampons en de menstruatiecup kopen in de supermarkt, drogisterijen, apotheek en online. De prijzen verschillen sterk.

U kunt 1 menstruatiecup tussen 5 en 10 jaar lang gebruiken. Daarom is de cup goedkoper dan tampons en maandverband. U kunt menstruatiecups kopen van verschillende merken, zoals OrganiCup, Be’Cup, Mooncup, Divacup en Ladycup. De cup kost ongeveer tussen 15 en 35 EUR.

Bij pijn

Bij sommige vrouwen is de menstruatie erg pijnlijk. U kunt de pijn in de buik of rug (baarmoeder) verlichten door te ontspannen. U kunt bijvoorbeeld: 

  • een warm bad of douche nemen;
  • een warm kussen op uw buik of rug leggen;
  • ontspannende thee drinken (bijvoorbeeld kamillethee);
  • sporten of ontspannende oefeningen doen;

Geslachtsgemeenschap

Sommige vrouwen willen geslachtsgemeenschap hebben tijdens de menstruatie, andere niet. Een vrouw kan geslachtsgemeenschap hebben tijdens de menstruatie als ze dat wil. Dit is geen probleem voor een goede hygiëne.

Menstrual cup

You can also use a menstrual cup instead of a sanitary towel or tampons. A menstrual cup is made from a soft material (silicone). You put the cup up inside the vagina. The cup collects the blood.

The cup comes in various sizes. The size of the cup depends on how much blood you lose and whether you have given birth or not.

You insert the cup in the same way as a tampon:
