Infection caused by bacteria. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI). First, a sore appears on the sexual organs, or in the mouth or anus, or between the buttocks. It is followed by a rash on the inside of the hands, feet and back. The doctor can cure syphilis with injections of antibiotics.

Infectie veroorzaakt door een bacterie. Syfilis is een seksueel overdraagbare aandoening (soa). Eerst verschijnt een zweer op de geslachtsdelen, of in de mond of aars, of tussen de billen. Daarna volgt uitslag op de binnenkant van de handen, voeten en rug. De dokter kan syfilis genezen met enkele injecties of antibiotica.
